What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide (also known as Wegovy or Ozempic) belongs to a class of medications known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. It mimics the GLP-1 hormone that is released in the gastrointestinal tract in response to eating. One role of GLP-1 is to prompt the body to produce more insulin, which reduces blood glucose (sugar). Initially used for prediabetes and diabetes and sold under the brand names, Semaglutide in higher doses of the same drug is being used off-label for weight loss in individuals who meet specific criteria. It may also slow gastric emptying thereby improving satiety; which is way it is important to modify your food intake and only eat to 60-80% satiety.

How does Semaglutide work?

GLP-1 in higher amounts also interacts with the parts of the brain that reduce appetite and signal a feeling of fullness, making it a good option for weight loss. It has shown promising results in clinical trials and offers a novel approach to weight management by influencing appetite and metabolism. However, it should be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional, and the benefits and risks should be carefully evaluated on an individual basis. Additionally, a holistic approach to weight management includes diet and exercise alongside medication when seeking sustainable weight loss.

How is Semiglutide taken?

Semaglutide is administered once a week by subcutaneous injection and dosing is started low and slowly progressed each month with maintenance dosing is generally established after six months. There is an option for oral (under the tongue) semaglutide solution for patients that are interested; please inquire during your establish care visit if interested.

Precautions/Side Effects

Like all medications, compounded semaglutide can cause side effects. The most common are gastrointestinal symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and constipation. In some cases, more severe side effects may occur, such as pancreatic inflammation, vision changes or low blood sugar, especially when taken with other diabetes medications.

Semaglutide is contraindicated in individuals with:

  • Individuals with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma.

  • Those with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2.

  • Patients with a history of severe gastrointestinal disease, including gastroparesis, as semaglutide can slow gastric emptying.

  • People under 18 years of age, as its safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established.

It is crucial to discuss all potential risks with a healthcare provider before starting treatment with semaglutide.

Tirzepatide

What is Tirzepatide

Tirzepatide (brand name Munjaro or Zepbound) is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as GLP-1 receptor agonists and is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and weight loss. By targeting both receptors, Tirzepatide enhances insulin secretion and reduces glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner, contributing to improved glycemic control. It also slows gastric emptying thereby improving satiety; which is way it is important to modify your food intake and only eat to 60-80% satiety. Tirzepatide is being used off-label for weight loss in individuals who meet specific criteria.

How does Tirzepatide Work

In addition to its glucose-lowering effects, tirzepatide has been associated with significant weight loss in clinical trials. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with type 2 diabetes, as weight management is a crucial aspect of overall diabetes care. Like other newer diabetes medications, tirzepatide has undergone cardiovascular outcomes trials. These trials assess the impact of the medication on cardiovascular events, providing valuable information on the safety and potential cardiovascular benefits of the drug. Laboratory monitoring should be done prior to beginning treatment and quarterly until maintenance dose is established. This medication should only be used under the supervision of a medical professional and should be utilized in conjunction with a healthy and consistent diet and exercise program.

Injectable Vitamins and Supplements

Vitamin B12 Weekly Injection: $25.00

Methylcobalamin is an active form of Vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 helps to utilize fats and carbohydrates for energy and make new proteins. Vitamin B12 is important in the maintenance of our metabolism, blood cells, and nerve function. Most people get enough vitamin B12 in their diet, but some need supplementation.

Certain health conditions such as intestinal or stomach problems, poor nutrition, cancer, HIV, pregnancy, old age, veganism, and alcoholism can cause vitamin B12 deficiency. Low levels of vitamin B12 can lead to fatigue and anemia in milder cases. More serous B12 deficiencies have the potential to impair heart and neurological function, leading to a wide range of serous symptoms, including but not limited to tinnitus, severe joint pain, memory problems, depression, anxiety, poor muscle function, ataxia, and changes in reflexes. Infertility can also occur in individuals with insufficient B12.

Early intervention and treatment of B12 deficiencies are key to maintaining healthy bodily function. B12 can also be indicated in those with pernicious anemia, diabetes, neuropathy, heart disease, circadian rhythm sleep disorders, memory loss, depression, fatigue, AIDS, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Lyme disease, osteoporosis, tendonitis, psychiatric disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, liver and kidney disease, and asthma. It also may help in improving concentration, maintaining fertility, anti-aging, boosting energy levels, converting fat to energy and mood elevation.

Precautions/Side Effects

Some medications, supplements, or over-the-counter drugs may interact with methylcobalamin. Always speak with your healthcare provider about everything you are taking. You should avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice. Before taking, speak with your doctor if you are allergic to vitamin b12, have a genetic condition called optic atrophy, have blood in your urine, polycythemia, an ongoing infection, low iron or folate levels, are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.

Some common side effects include:

  • – Anorexia

  • – Vomiting

  • – Headaches

  • – Diarrhea

  • – Nausea

Vitamin D Monthly Injection: $30.00

Vitamin D is crucial to the building and maintenance of healthy bones and teeth. Calcium, the primary component of bone, is only properly absorbed by your body when vitamin D is present. Vitamin D is created within the body when direct sunlight converts a chemical in your skin into an active form of the vitamin.

There are not many foods that contain vitamin D, but you can find it in fortified milk, fortified cereals, and fatty fish, like salmon, mackerel, and sardines. Unfortunately, most people do not get the necessary amount of vitamin D. Therefore, supplementation is needed. Vitamin D3 is the natural form of vitamin D that your body makes from sunlight. The two major forms are vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). The recommended form of vitamin D for supplementation is cholecalciferol. Cholecalciferol is metabolized to its active form, calcitriol, which increases the body's absorption of calcium and phosphorus. Calcitriol may play a role in the immune system and may inhibit cancer growth and stimulate cell differentiation.

Receiving vitamin D3 injections can assist with preventing the symptoms of vitamin D deficiency, including fatigue and bone pain. Vitamin D deficiency has been associated with an increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment in the elderly, severe childhood asthma and cancer. Vitamin D3 is paramount for a healthy immune system, as well as bone and nerve health and allows for more efficient absorption of calcium, which helps keeps bones healthy.

Precautions/Side Effects

Vitamin D3 may interact with many different medications. Always speak with your doctor when taking any new medication or supplementation. Always bring a list of medications or any other products you are taking with you for your healthcare provider to look over. If you experience any signs of overdose, seek medical attention immediately. Certain conditions are contraindicated in the use of vitamin D3. These include sarcoidosis, high phosphate blood levels, high calcium blood levels, excessive vitamin D levels, arteriosclerosis with occlusion of the arteries, kidney stones, kidney disease with reduced kidney function, and allergies to vitamin D.

When taken in appropriate doses, vitamin D injections are generally considered safe with no side effects. However, it can be harmful when taken in excess amounts. Some of the side effects experienced when taking too much include:

  • – Nausea

  • – Vomiting

  • – Poor appetite

  • – Constipation

  • – Weakness

  • – Weight loss

  • – Confusion

  • – Disorientation

  • – Heart rhythm problems

  • – Kidney damage

Biotin

Weekly Injection: $25.00

Biotin, also known as B7, is a water-soluble vitamin found in foods such as eggs, milk, and bananas. This vitamin is important for overall health, and plays a role in cell growth, carbohydrate metabolism, and fatty acid synthesis. Biotin is involved in a wide range of metabolic processes primarily related to the utilization of fats, carbohydrates, and amino acids. It also influences cell growth and may help in maintaining blood sugar levels.

Biotin is commonly supplemented for multiple conditionssuch as hair loss, brittle nails, and nerve damage. Biotin is also thought to reduce inflammation, improve cognitive function, and increase HDL (good) cholesterol and decrease LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Precautions/Side Effects

Speak with your healthcare provider if you are currently taking certain medications that can lower your blood levels of biotin, such as carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin, or primidone, or if you are currently on dialysis or taking chemotherapy. It is always important to check with your doctor before adding any new supplementation to your routine. Since biotin is water-soluble, any extra in your body flushes out through the urine, so overdose is highly unlikely. If you develop any unusual or unexpected rashes, see your doctor as this may be sign of an overdose. In this case, dosages will need to be adjusted.

Some common side effects include:

  • – Nausea

  • – Abdominal pain or cramping

  • – Diarrhea

Lipo + (the skinny shot)

Weekly Injection: $25.00

Lipo + combines some of the most powerful lipotropic ingredients in one injection. This combination helps the body more efficiently burn fat and process sugars which may help boost metabolism.

Ingredients:

-B6 Promotes red blood cell production and converts food into energy.

-Methionine Helps break down sugars & carbohydrates and convert them into energy.

-Inositol Converts food into energy.

-Choline Cuts muscle recovery time, and helps convert fat into energy.

Lipotropic agents are a class of substances (of which choline, inositol and methionine... are among the most effective) that play an important role in the body’s control of fat. Through their involvement in lipid/fat metabolism, lipotropics help maintain a healthy liver. The liver plays a major role in human metabolism and has a number of important functions, including glycogen storage, plasma protein synthesis and detoxification. The liver also produces bile, a compound which aids in digestion and the breakdown of lipids(fats). Lipotropic injections include a combination of important amino acids and vitamins.

Choline is a fat emulsifier which can aid in emulsifying cholesterol and thereby may reduce accumulation on vessel walls. Choline works well with inositol to properly utilize fats and cholesterol. The body can produce choline, with the help of vitamin B12, folic acid, and methionine. Natural choline production however, may not always be adequate to meet daily needs. Diets deficient in choline may lead to undesirable changes to liver, kidney and brain functions.

Inositol metabolizes fats & cholesterol and aids in transporting fat in the blood system. Thus, inositol is an aid in the redistribution of body fat and can help to lower cholesterol levels. It is a member of B-Complex group and is a Lipotropic agent. A lack of inositol has been shown to produce an accumulation of triglycerides in the liver.

Methionine has lipotropic properties similar to those of choline. Two other important amino acids (taurine and cysteine) depend on adequate levels of methionine for their biosynthesis in the body. Methionine is one of the nutrients required during the body’s manufacture of choline and a deficiency of this amino acid can adversely affect fat metabolism. Indeed, Methionine is an amino acid which works to reduce fat and may aid in lowering cholesterol. It can be substituted for choline, which aids in reducing liver fat and detoxifies amines, which are by-products of protein metabolism.
